Domaine de L'Ecu Ange 2017

The story of Domaine de l’Ecu began with Guy Bossard. Guy, a fifth generation Muscadet Sèvre et Maine vigneron, took over his family’s domaine in 1972. Guy is one of the appellation’s earliest pioneers of organic viticulture and adopted the nickname “The Pope of Muscadet” amongst his peers. From the start, Guy was focused on building his domaine’s reputation on the principles of organic viticulture and true respect for nature. The domaine received organic certification in 1975 and became DEMETER certified biodynamic in 1998.

The vineyards for Domaine de l'Écu Ange have gneiss and orthogneiss soils. Their yields are low, from 25 to 30 hectolitres per hectare, and produce a balanced and concentrated grape.
Domaine de l'Écu Ange is harvested manually and vatted whole. It then ferments with native yeasts for 10 days and is then pressed. Lastly, the wine is aged for 10 months in amphorae with no sulphites being added. The wine is neither clarified nor filtered, so some sediment may appear in the bottle.
